Is light sensitivity causing you pain or discomfort in everyday life?

You may be dealing with the symptoms of dry eye. You are not alone. Between 30 to 40 million Americans are estimated to suffer from dry eye disease. Light sensitivity accompanied by dryness, redness, or a gritty sensation in your eyes can signal a chronic condition.

We know how tough and frustrating this can be – and you deserve a solution. At select Sterling Optical locations, we offer OptiLight – A Bright Solution for Dry Eyes – so you can get back to enjoying comfortable, clear vision. It is the first and only light therapy, FDA-Approved for Dry Eye Management. OptiLight with Lumenis patented Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT®) uses precise, intense broad spectrum light to address the inflammation – one of the key underlining factors in dry eye disease due to Meibomian Gland Dysfunction (MGD), a leading case in dry eye disease, accounting for about 86% of cases.

Featuring a 10-15 minute procedure performed four times spaced 2-4 weeks apart, OptiLight by Lumenis® manages and improves your dry eye disease, reducing the need for drops, as well as saving you time and energy.

One of the most important factors in deciding which Laser/IPL (and settings) to use is the patient skin type. Skin typing is determined by genetics, reaction of the skin to sun exposure and tanning habits. The following skin type quiz is intended as a sample only to provide additional help in the evaluation of an individual skin
type. Skin typing of the area to be treated is to be assessed by our team to determine best course of action.

Sterling Optical and Lumenis takes no liability on that document and its content is not intended to be a substitute for professional medical diagnosis.

Who is OptiLight Dry Eye Therapy For?

OptiLight dry eye therapy can help patients who are experiencing dry eye caused by Meibomian gland dysfunction (MGD) which is known as the most common cause of dry eye disease. OptiLight works by reducing inflammatory mediators, improving tear breakup time significantly, restoring the meibomian gland functionality, and destroying blood vessels causing inflammation which leads to dry eyes.

Does OptiLight Cause Downtime?

Patients are typically able to return to work/normal activities immediately after treatment.  You may notice a light flushed appearance.  Also you must refrain from intense UV exposure for the next few days following treatment.

What to Expect During OptiLight Treatment?

OptiLight treatment takes only 4 sessions lasting about 15 minutes each. After these initial treatments it is recommended to have maintenance treatments about once every 6-12 months.

Am I a Candidate for OptiLight Dry Eye Light Therapy?

Some patients may not be a candidate for OptiLight therapy if you have one of the following conditions:

  • ocular surgery or eyelid surgery within 6 months prior to treatment
  • pre-cancerous legions, skin cancer, or pigmented legions
  • uncontrolled infections or immunosuppressive diseases

  • systematic lupus
